Richard Yen is a long-time VC investor and operating executive specializing in the consumer tech space. Prior to launching Medici in 2018, Richard spent 10 years at Saban Capital Group, a multi-$B private equity firm investing on behalf of media billionaire Haim Saban. He served as Managing Director and established the firm's tech/Internet late-stage investment practice out of San Francisco. He advised portfolio companies including Univision and Saban Brands (acquired by Hasbro) on digital strategy and M&A. Previously, Richard was a Principal at Blueprint Ventures, an early-stage VC firm where he led the firm's Internet investing practice.
Richard brings extensive consumer tech experience as a startup operator. He began his career at D. E. Shaw & Co., a leading quantitative hedge fund. He held senior engineering and product roles as an early member of D. E. Shaw's Internet incubator in Boston and the Silicon Valley. He helped launch an award-winning consumer fintech startup that scaled to 75 employees and was acquired by Merrill Lynch.
Richard earned a BS in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science from UC Berkeley and an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, both with high honors. Richard is a Kauffman Fellow.
